Welcome to Bodacious Beardies located in sunny Southern California! Beardies Collies are also known as “Beardies”
Welcome to Bodacious Bearded Collies! We’re located in sunny Southern California—Los Angeles to be exact—home to Beardies with beautiful heads, sound temperaments, joyful movement, and, above all, very loving personalities. Our dogs are cherished family members first (yes, they usually end up in our beds!), and we only show them occasionally for fun. We are proud to be preservation breeders, dedicated to protecting and maintaining the Bearded Collie’s original purpose. For us, that means breeding for friendly, happy temperaments, sound health, and well-rounded, versatile dogs who can do it all—and still be your best friend. All of our puppies are raised in our home, right alongside our adult dogs, so they grow up well-socialized and ready to thrive in their new families. For the first couple of weeks, the pups stay in our extra bedroom, where we sleep next to mom and babies. Once they’re a little older, they move into our living room so they can be part of everyday life and all the hustle and bustle of a busy household. We’re always looking for the right fit for our pups—whether it’s performance homes, loving family homes, or show/conformation homes. A little warning… Bearded Collies are like potato chips—you can’t have just one! You can try, but don’t say we didn’t warn you. If you’d like to know more about my journey with these incredible dogs, head over to the About Us page.
About Us

A Bit of History About Us

I’ve lived in Los Angeles, California all my life, and my love for Bearded Collies began in 1979. These amazing dogs are not only beautiful, but incredibly versatile and smart. Beardies can shine in conformation, obedience, herding, and agility, and many today also enjoy barn hunt, scent work, and even dancing! Keeping a Beardie busy makes life fun—for both them and you. After my first Bearded Collie passed away, we tried a few other breeds, but nothing compared to the personality, heart, and longevity of the Beardie.

My First Beardie – “Bufferin”

I grew up in the San Fernando Valley, and my first Beardie was Time’s Buff-Up, bred by Susie Tranquillo. Because the litter was named after Amway products, his registered name wasn’t my favorite, so we called him “Bufferin.” He was a sweet brown Beardie with a kissable nose, and I used to joke that he gave me a headache—thus the name! Bufferin lived almost 18 wonderful years. Losing him broke my heart, and I couldn’t bring myself to get another Beardie for quite some time.

Finding Winston & Ebony

In 2001, I reconnected with the breed through breeder Robin Lee Hood of Colquhoun Bearded Collies. Robin was not only producing gorgeous, healthy, versatile dogs, but she quickly became a dear friend and mentor. That year, we welcomed Colquhoun’s Sir Winston Brody (“Winston”) from Robin’s “Harry Potter” litter. Winston grew into a bright, energetic, independent, and lovable Beardie, with a stunning head and movement to match. He earned his championship after some patience (and training on our part!). In 2004, we added Colquhoun’s Princess Ebony (“Ebony”) to our family. True to her name, Ebony was our little princess—always choosing the couch, a chair, or our bed as her spot. She was smart, funny, and absolutely lovable. Ebony earned her championship “her way” in 2007. We were devastated when Robin passed away in December 2021. She remains an unforgettable part of our journey, and I will always cherish her friendship and wisdom.

New Additions & Adventures

Over the years, our family has been blessed with more wonderful Beardies. In 2012 at the BCCA National in Los Angeles, my daughter Sarah and I met amazing people like Tom Dixon, Deb & Geoff Quadland, and Graeme Burdon. Sarah even won Best of Juniors, and our girl Sapphire brought us endless joy that weekend. In 2018, I traveled to Toronto to meet Dreamchaser Elegant Emerald (“Emerald”). Spending 11 days with Deb, Geoff, and their dogs was an incredible learning experience, and I came home with the “yellow” girl, Emerald. She has the sweetest temperament, and Sarah now co-owns her with me. Emerald has since blessed us with beautiful puppies when bred to Z, including our beloved Tootsie. In 2023, our Beardies Pabst and Emerald produced another stunning litter. You can read more and see photos on our Blog!

Health & Care

We take health testing seriously. All of the dogs we breed with are DNA tested, clear for CEA, and have OFA testing for thyroid, hips, and eyes (and elbows when possible). Our goal is to preserve and protect this amazing breed for the future. ________________________________________

Hobbies & Creativity

When I’m not with my Beardies, I enjoy a few other passions: Chickens – We raise a small flock and love having fresh eggs and their company in the yard. Art – I’m an artist who loves drawing dogs (especially Beardies!). My work can be turned into custom cards or Giclée prints, with backgrounds personalized for unique gifts. You can view my work here: Beardie Art, Dog Art, or Pet Art. Many pieces are available in my Etsy shop. Handmade Collars & Leashes – Since 2018, I’ve been making satin Martingale collars with matching leashes and bows. You can see them here: Collar My World. Custom Glitter & Painted Items – In 2020, I started creating fun, glittery, personalized items like dog bowls, tumblers, buckets, cat bowls, and more. You can find them here: Custom Tumblers. I re-opened my Etsy shop in 2023, so please stop by, favorite the shop, and browse around. I love creating custom pieces, so feel free to message me with ideas! ________________________________________ Closing Bearded Collies have been such a joyful part of my life, and I’m so grateful for the friends, adventures, and memories they’ve brought me. Thank you for visiting Bodacious Bearded Collies—I’d love to share more about these incredible dogs with you!

Bodacious Beardies in Southern California We’re happily based in Woodland Hills, California. II’ve been part of the Bearded Collie Club of Southern California (BCCSC) longer than I can remember and on the board since 2013, and it’s been such a rewarding journey. Over the years I’ve served as President, Secretary, and Vice President. In 2021, I stepped into the VP role to slow down a little—spend more time with my family, enjoy our other animals, and of course, welcome puppies! By 2023, I found myself back as President again. It’s hard to stay away when you love Beardies as much as I do. I’ve also had the joy of being Show Chair for our local Specialty shows. On top of that, I put together the Beardie Blast, an email update that keeps everyone in the loop while keeping our members’ emails private. I also design The Shaggy Rag, our colorful annual newsletter that arrives in the mail once a year—something we all look forward to. At club events, I love taking photos so even those who can’t attend can still share in the fun. Simply put—I love this breed! During 2020, when things slowed down during Covid, I discovered a new creative outlet. I started making glitter tumblers, which quickly grew into custom dog pails, bowls, pens, crate tags, and sparkly dog tags. Everything is glittery, colorful, and made with love. The feedback has been amazing, and it’s been such fun creating items people cherish. You can take a peek here: Custom Tumblers. I also love to draw, especially Bearded Collies. My art can be turned into cards or Giclée prints, and each piece is fully customizable. If you’d like to see some of my work or order something special, visit Beardie Art. And because I also do Pet Therapy (and like my Beardies to have a little extra flair), I started making Martingale collars with matching leashes and bows. You can see them at Collar My World. Whether you have a question about Beardies, want to chat about health, or just love the breed as much as I do—I’d love to hear from you!
